Tracking mutual funds, PPF and FDs — what we plan to build

Paisewise tracks spending, not investments. There is no portfolio or net-worth view in the product today. This page explains the problem and what already works.

Not available today

Paisewise does not track investments. There is no mutual fund, stock, fixed deposit, PPF, EPF or NPS tracking, and no net-worth view. Those are on our roadmap; none of them are in the product right now.

What does work today: Paisewise reads the bank, UPI and credit-card transaction alerts your issuers already email you and turns them into a categorised spending ledger, with monthly trends, a per-bank breakdown, statement PDF reconciliation, and an AI chat over your own transactions. If your SIP debit generates a bank alert, it appears as a transaction like any other — but Paisewise records it as money leaving an account, not as a holding with a current value or a return.

The Indian investor's problem: wealth scattered everywhere

A typical Indian saver's portfolio is spread across more places than any single app can see. Mutual fund SIPs run through one or two platforms. The PPF account lives at a bank or post office and updates once a year in a passbook. Fixed deposits sit in two different banks at different rates and maturities. Stocks are with a broker, NPS is on its own portal, and there may be sovereign gold bonds or an EPF balance on top. Each one has its own login, its own statement format, and its own way of showing returns.

The consequence is that almost nobody can answer the two questions that actually matter: what is my total net worth today, and is it growing fast enough for my goals? Adding it up by hand in a spreadsheet works for exactly one weekend, and then the spreadsheet goes stale.

Why we have not built it yet

Spending data has one honest, universal source in India: the transaction alerts issuers already send. Holdings do not. Valuing a portfolio needs current NAVs, folio-level positions, accrued interest and maturity dates — pulled from CAS statements, broker feeds, or regulated account links that we have not built. Guessing at any of that would produce a net-worth number that looks authoritative and is wrong, which is worse than no number.

So the order is deliberate: get spending right first, from a source that cannot drift, then add holdings when we can source them properly rather than approximate them.

What you can do in the meantime

Know what you can actually afford to invest. A complete, categorised picture of the month — which is what Paisewise does build today — is the input every SIP decision needs and most people are missing. See automatic UPI expense tracking and categories and spend trends for what that looks like.

How your data is handled

Access is read-only and scoped to transaction alert mail from known bank and card senders. Paisewise cannot move money, place orders, or redeem anything — there is no payment or broking rail connected to it at all. We do not sell your data. Our FAQ and privacy policy cover the detail.

Start with the spending side

The web app is live and tracks your spends automatically. Investments are roadmap — we will move them into the live column the day they ship.
